Challenge #60—Gifted and Talented

Wow—I can’t believe we are on challenge #60!  I do want to know, has anyone done all the challenges?  If you have, leave a comment and let me know—I would just love to know if anyone has taken the challenges and recorded them all in some way, shape or form!

We will now move on to this challenge…

What are some of your gifts and talents?

I know it’s hard to sometimes admit the things we’re good at, for fear that we’re bragging, but it’s also important to recognize all that we’ve been blessed with!

Here’s a quick list I thought of, that gives you some ideas of where your gifts and talents may lie.  This is just a starting point, to get you thinking.  I obviously couldn’t write down, or even think of every talent that is out there!

Academics: Math, science, writing, memorizing easily, reading quickly, strategy in life or games, etc.
Physical: Sports, running, flexibility, exercising, martial arts, dancing, etc.
Creative: Crafting, music, photography, drawing/painting, scrapbooking, designing, decorating, cooking/baking, etc.
Personality:  Loving, thoughtful, cheerful, kind, energetic, outgoing, shy, quiet, thinker, optimistic, etc.

You can simply make a list of the gifts and talents you’ve been given, write them in your journal, make them into a scrapbook or smash book page, or even use one of your talents to do something more (like write a poem or song about it if you’ve been gifted in that area!).  I know it’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these, but I’ve made a Fast Form freebie for any of you who’d like to use it!  Just click on the image to download!  (I do ask that you pretty please follow this blog via either Google Friend Connect, Google+,  Networked Blogs, FB or Twitter—or all if you wish!  Thanks!)

TIMC Fast Form--Gifted and Talented

Okay, now on to some examples for you!

What Laura did:

This month’s prompt was a hard one for me.  I don’t think of myself as having any “talents” or “gifts.”  Then I got to thinking that I have an incredible memory when it comes to remembering license plates (at least I used to have an incredible memory).  Here is a layout I created explaining this so called “gift” of memory.

I love Laura’s spin on this!  What a fun little quirk about her that few probably know, and now she has it recorded!

What I did:

I actually decided to twist this one a little bit.  I’m going to print off and fill out the Fast Form, but I thought it’d be fun to do a scrapbook page based on something one of my Church leaders taught in a lesson a few years ago that has stuck with me.  I wish I would’ve written out the journaling before-hand, but I just wrote it as it came to me, so it’s not perfect and doesn’t really convey all that I had wanted to say—but it does get my point across!

TIMC 1iHere’s what the journaling says:

“Once upon a time…I thought I didn’t have many gifts or talents.  I wasn’t exceptionally good at anything…I didn’t have a “thing” in High School like others did.  I have always been just “alright” at a handful of things.  Musically, I do okay on the piano—not well enough to play for Church.  I also played the clarinet a bit and I can sing well enough for a choir but not any solos.  Artistically I can’t draw, but I am a pretty good photographer and good at scrapbooking.  Academically I was always a B+ or A- student—not good enough grades for scholarships.  I was (still am) a pretty good teacher, but not teacher of the year quality.  I was/am a pretty good dancer, though I never made any special teams.  I feel that I am just pretty average at all that I do.  One Sunday, our Bishop taught a lesson I’ll never forget.  he was using Elder Oaks’ “Good, Better, Best” talk and focused on how if we spend all our time on just 1 or 2 things we become like blocks, but if we are good at many things, we are well-rounded.  That put my life in perspective!  I may not be the best dancer, photographer, or even mom…but I am WELL-ROUNDED!”

What Kim did:

Again, I just take the question and write about it on a private blog that I created for the TIMC questions.  Then, if I can find a picture that applies to it I like to put it on my blog as well just to jazz it up a little.  It keeps it quick and easy, but I enjoy recording it.

I chose to focus on one gift/talent that I feel has shaped who I am:   HEART--the talent of putting everything into something.

I don't know if this really counts as a talent, but I know it is definitely a gift that has helped me through all my different talents in different stages of my life.

Growing up I was never the most skilled sports player, but I was always one of the toughest people to play against because I had heart.  I would give my all in everything I did.  In every practice I went to, in every game that I played; in every ball that I would slide for or dive for, I put my whole heart into it.  This didn't ever make me the best, but it made it look like I was talented in sports.

In school I was never the smartest person in my classes; but I would put my heart into my projects, assignments, and presentations and always succeeded because I gave it everything I had.

As a trainer, I feel that having the talent of heart helps me motivate my clients.  I put everything I have into helping my clients succeed and it shows by how well my clients do and how excited they are to come train with me each time.

As a mom, I KNOW I am not the best mom in the world; but I put my whole heart into it and I can only hope that by continuing to do that my children will know how much I love them and want the best for them.

So I don't know if heart counts as a talent or not, but I truly feel that if you don't use your talents you lose them, and I know that if I quite putting my heart into everything I do, I would lose it and it is a something I don't want to lose.

Now I challenge you to record some of your gifts and talents!  Smile
